Attitude of the Heart

Updated: Dec 23, 2019

Romans 12:2 states, "Be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. The NLT version says, "don't copy the the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. I have always struggled with having a bad attitude. I just could not figure out my malfunction. I petitioned God about this issue. I immediately, heard God say, "you struggle with a bad attitude because you make other people's issues your issues. You want to be liked and approved so bad!" (He sometimes speaks to me in my voice lol) Then He took me back to a memory I had in the 2nd grade! It was the first time I had ever experienced the spirit of jealousy. I felt it, but I didn't understand it. I wanted to be liked and accepted so badly by someone I was very close to. I even remember telling one of my friends while waiting in the school lunch line that this person was jealous of me. How in the heck does a 2nd grader even know what jealousy is?! Somehow I did. God showed me this is where the bad attitude began. At that point, I started to make their issue my issue and conformed to their way and their attitude. In retaliation (this was years ago, so I can only assume lol) I thought, "well, if they don't like me, I just won't like them either." I do remember feeling the rejection. But the Word tells us not to be conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. Obviously, at 7 years old, I didn't know this or how to effectively respond to jealousy, but God showed me that this where the issue crept in. Before we can be delivered from an issue, we sometimes have to get to the root cause. We must allow God to dissect and remove all the debris from our hearts. This process takes time. Are you willing to go through the process?

Attitude, by definition, is a settle way of thinking or feeling about something or someone, typically one that is reflected in a person's behavior. If you have been dealing with a bad attitude for a long time and can't seem to break out of it, ask God to show you the root cause. Be willing to put in the work by allowing Him to dive in and pull out all that shouldn't be, stay in the presence of God until the work is completed and you are completely healed. Sometimes we get up too fast! What I mean is, we sometimes do not stay in His presence long enough to be healed. This could be over several sessions with the Lord. He is the WONDERFUL COUNSELOR!!! Give Him a chance to do surgery on your heart and then give yourself the downtime before continuing with business as usual. I am a living witness that this works!!!!!!!! My attitude is great now and although I still sometimes take on other's issues, God reminds me of who I am and other folks issues are NOT my issues. He is yet perfecting His greatness in me. We truly have the power and authority to conform the world and not allow it to conform us.

I pray this is helpful.
